Toshiba Delivers Print Infrastructure in Record Time for the Royal College of Surgeons of England

The Royal College of Surgeons of England (RCS England) is a professional membership organisation and registered charity dedicated to advancing patient care. It provides education, assessment, and professional standards for 30,000 surgeons, dental surgeons, and members of the wider surgical and dental teams at every stage of their careers.

The Challenge

RCS England embarked on an ambitious two-and-a-half-year refurbishment of its premises, designed to support an entirely new way of working. The transformation introduced open-plan spaces, hot desks, and a clear direction towards hybrid working arrangements for staff.

The existing print infrastructure was built around a traditional office layout and could not support the flexibility that the new environment demanded. A refreshed, centralised print solution was needed — and it had to be installed and operational in time for the new office opening, leaving very little margin for delay.

The Solution

Toshiba was selected to design and implement a print infrastructure that matched the College’s new working model. The solution centred on Toshiba e-STUDIO multifunction printers configured to support hot-desking and flexible working, with centralised print hubs replacing the previous distributed approach.

The installation was completed in record time to meet the deadline for the office opening, with Toshiba’s project team coordinating closely with the College’s facilities and IT departments throughout the process.

The Results

RCS England opened its refurbished offices on schedule with a fully operational Toshiba print environment. Staff can now print, scan, and copy from centralised hubs regardless of where they are sitting on a given day, supporting the flexible and hybrid working culture that the refurbishment was designed to enable.

The new infrastructure is leaner, easier to manage and aligned to the College’s modern working practices.
