Finisher, stapler and hole-punch messages
Most of these messages apply only when the relevant optional finishing unit is fitted, and which units can be fitted depends on the model.
Most of these messages come from an optional finishing unit fitted to your copier. They mean a tray is full, the stapler needs attention, the hole-punch waste needs emptying, or something is blocking the finisher's tray. One, “Ready (inner tray full)”, is about the copier's own exit tray. Find the exact message below.
Which copiers show these messages
Apart from “Ready (inner tray full)”, these messages relate to optional finishing units: a finisher, a saddle stitch finisher or an inner finisher, and a hole punch unit, which is fitted to one of those. Which units can be fitted depends on the model. If you're not sure what's fitted to your copier, ask your service provider.
A tray is full
- “Ready (finisher full)”: the finisher's receiving tray is full. Remove the paper from the finisher's receiving tray.
- “Ready (inner tray full)”: the copier's own exit tray is full. Remove the paper from the exit tray.
- “Ready (saddle stitch tray full)”: the saddle stitch tray on the finisher is full. Remove the paper from the saddle stitch tray.
Staples are running low or have run out
- “Check staple cartridge”: the staples in the finisher's stapler have almost run out, or have run out. “Ready (Check Stapler)” can also mean this; see the separate section on that message below.
- “Check staple cartridge in the saddle stitch unit.” or “Ready (check saddle stitch stapler)”: the same, for the saddle stitch unit's stapler.
- In both cases, if stapling isn't being carried out even though you selected it, replace the staple case. Your copier's manual gives the refilling steps for your type of finisher.
A staple is jammed
- “Examine stapler.”: a staple has jammed in the finisher's stapler. The jammed staples need removing.
- “Examine stapler in the saddle stitch unit.”: a staple has jammed in the saddle stitch unit's stapler. The jammed staples need removing.
- “Ready (Check Stapler)” can also point to a staple jam; see the separate section on that message below.
- Your copier's manual gives the steps for clearing a staple jam on your type of finisher.
If you see “Ready (Check Stapler)”
The manufacturer's guide gives two possible causes for this message, both in the finisher's stapler. Either the staples have almost run out or have run out, and the staple case needs replacing if stapling isn't being carried out even though you selected it. Or a staple has jammed or the staple sheet hasn't fed through properly, and the top staple sheet needs removing.
Check the stapler using the instructions for your type of finisher in your copier's manual. If you can't tell which cause applies, or stapling still doesn't work, contact your service provider rather than forcing anything.
Hole-punch waste
- “Ready (hole punch dust bin is full)” or “Please empty hole punch waste”: the hole punch unit's dust bin is full of punchings. Empty the punchings, following the hole punch instructions in your copier's manual.
Something under the finisher tray
- “Check under the finisher tray and reboot the machine.”: something is in the way under the finisher's tray. Remove the obstruction, then restart the copier. If the message comes back, contact your service provider.
Don't force paper, staples or the finisher trays. If a sheet or staple won't come free easily, stop and contact your service provider.
Never try to repair, take apart or modify the copier yourself. The manufacturer warns that doing so could cause a fire or an electric shock.
If the problem continues, contact your service provider. Tell them your model name and the exact wording of the message on the touch panel, plus any error code shown.
