Understanding waste toner box messages

Three messages mean three different things: the waste toner box is nearly full, it is full and needs replacing with a new box, or it isn't fitted properly. Find the exact message below.

This guide covers only the models listed. It does not cover the e-STUDIO2528A, 3028A, 3528A or 4528A; if you have one of those, contact your supplier.

“Prepare new waste toner box.”

The waste toner box is nearly full. Get a new waste toner box ready.

“Replace the waste toner box”

  • The box is full. On these models the full-box message may read “Dispose of used toner”, with the waste toner box symbol blinking.
  • Fit a new box by following the touch-panel guidance, page by page, to the end. It includes a cleaning step that differs between models, so don't skip it.
  • The used box is sealed away for disposal. It is not emptied and put back.

“Confirm waste toner box is attached and close waste toner box cover.”

Either the waste toner box isn't securely fitted, or its cover is open. Check the box is securely in place and close the waste toner box cover.

Handling a used waste toner box

  • Never burn a waste toner box.
  • Don't put it down with its toner collecting holes facing down, or toner may spill. Rest it on a large sheet to protect the floor.
  • Dispose of it in line with local regulations. If you're not sure what applies, ask your supplier.

Never try to repair, take apart or modify the copier yourself. The manufacturer warns that doing so could cause a fire or an electric shock.

If the problem continues, contact your service provider. Tell them your model name and the exact wording of the message on the touch panel, plus any error code shown.
